The Gift
I was invited to play guitar, with my good friend and music partner Glenn, at the North Fork Environmental Council’s fundraiser at Martha Clara Vineyard. As a donation for their auction, I offered a consultation, examination and one full month of unlimited chiropractic care. When it went up for bidding, the sixty or seventy were quiet for about a minute, then someone finally bid and won. I thought, how sad it is that people don’t really know what chiropractic offers. They don’t understand its wonderful gift to humanity. Although I often blame the chiropractic colleges for diluting chiropractic, and those in chiropractic that have tried to reduce it to a musculo-skeletal therapy, I realized I must take some of the blame myself. Even my words consultation, examination, and chiropractic care added to the “dullness” of what I was offering. On the way home, I wished instead I had offered it as the great gift it truly is; the gift of a better functioning mind and body. If and when this person comes in to the office in the next few weeks, what I really want to tell him or her is that with every chiropractic adjustment, directed at reducing and removing vertebral subluxation, your spine and central nervous system will function better, which, in turn, improves your immune system, your emotional well-being, and your mental acuity. It improves the function of your organs and glands, which improves your overall body chemistry. It also improves the body’s mechanics, bones, muscles and joints. Of course it depends on the severity and duration of one’s subluxations as to whether the degree of improvement is subtle or dramatic.
