Why our Spines Need to be Adjusted
Recently, I’ve heard a few people say things like, “My back feels OK these days, and so I don’t need to get adjusted.” When I hear this, it makes me realize how much I have failed in teaching the principles of chiropractic. Chiropractic is about the location and correction of vertebral subluxation, and not about relief from pain. Do you brush your teeth only when you have a toothache? No. You do it to take care of your teeth. Do you eat well or exercise regularly because you have pain? No. You do them to take care of your body. Life is tough on the spine. Birth, falls, accidents and stress cause damage to the spine, most commonly to the mid-neck and low back. These areas gradually deteriorate over time, and very quietly, the nervous system weakens and causes our body to work less than 100%. By the time you have pain or other symptoms, there is usually a significant amount of degeneration in your spine. Chiropractic is about function, how things work. The central nervous system controls and coordinates all structures and functions in the human body. When the joints of the spine are injured (vertebral subluxation), the nervous system is impaired and the body doesn’t work optimally. Like a dimmer switch on a light bulb, your life becomes dimmer. Chiropractic adjustments are about keeping the spine functioning at a high level so your body can work the way it was designed to work. Don’t wait for pain. Take care of your spine. Be regular with your adjustments and your life will be better. Why? Because every aspect of life is better with a proper functioning nervous system. It is not in my nature to use fear as a means to educate people about the importance of regular spinal adjustments. I prefer to focus on the benefits of a clear and healthy nerve supply. All too often, I see so many with canes and walkers and wheelchairs and hip and knee replacements, I realize I must be stronger in my education. Thank you for reading.
