Gratitude
A sincere thank you to all of you for trusting in chiropractic and me. The word “chiropractic” came from the Rev. Samuel Weed in 1895 – the Greek “chiro” for hand, and “praktiko” for done by or practiced by. We chiropractors use our hands to locate and correct vertebral subluxations, those little spinal injuries that have healed wrong causing joint and nerve dysfunction.
When one understands subluxation, it becomes fairly obvious to see how spinal injuries occur during the birth process, as well as multiple times throughout childhood and life. Sadly, these are usually left uncorrected, and the individual functions less that 100% throughout his or her life. The devastating effects of subluxation are often hidden for many years, which is why I recommend people have their children’s spines examined and adjusted as early as possible, and as regularly as possible. I don’t think it’s wise to wait for symptoms and conditions to appear because they’re often effects of a weakened nervous system that show up months or years later. Sometimes, when checking and adjusting an infant’s spine for the first time, I see the fear and uncertainty in a parent’s eyes. After all, here’s this 200-pound guy with his hands on their baby’s tiny neck and spine. It does involve a lot of trust, and for that I’m extremely grateful. But as I gently adjust the baby’s delicate spine, I put a huge amount of trust in the innate intelligence within the baby. That life force or energy that took the two tiny half cells and created eyeballs, kidneys, lungs, a heart, an immune system, and bones, and muscles, and a thyroid, and a pancreas! You get the idea. This is the heart and soul of chiropractic; trusting in the innate intelligence of the body.
